If you send one-time passwords, booking reminders or order updates by SMS to Turkish numbers, mark 18 November 2026.
What Twilio says
From Twilio’s Turkey SMS guidelines:
- Sender ID registration is required in Türkiye. From 18 November 2026 messages to Turkish networks from unregistered sender IDs will be blocked; you must use a registered alphanumeric sender ID.
- Turkish carriers filter numeric and unregistered alphanumeric sender IDs, so pre-registration is advised.
- Provisioning an alphanumeric sender ID takes about two weeks.
- Since 1 April 2026, companies without a local entity in Türkiye can no longer send messages with URLs to Turkish numbers.
- Since 15 February 2021, and until further notice, promotional traffic to Türkiye is prohibited; sending it can get your sender ID blocked and lead to penalties.
- Person-to-person traffic and gambling, political or religious content are prohibited.
With about two weeks to register, the request needs to go in now to be ready by 18 November.
Sender IDs in MonoChat
MonoChat’s Twilio SMS channel can send from an alphanumeric sender ID or a Messaging Service instead of a phone number, chosen in the Sender type field:
| Sender type | What you enter | Replies |
|---|---|---|
| Alphanumeric sender ID | Sender ID (1–11 letters and digits, at least one letter), Account SID, Auth Token | Not possible |
| Messaging Service | Messaging Service SID, Account SID, Auth Token | Only if you also enter the Phone Number SID of a number in the service |
Steps
- Register in Twilio. Request an alphanumeric sender ID for Türkiye in the Twilio Console; allow about two weeks.
- Connect the channel. In MonoChat, go to Settings › Channels › SMS › Twilio SMS and choose Alphanumeric Sender ID.
- Review your use case. Promotional SMS to Türkiye is prohibited through Twilio; send notifications and codes by SMS, and permitted campaigns on WhatsApp with approved templates.
- Check your links. Without a Turkish entity, keep URLs out of SMS to Turkish numbers.
